Portugal Startup Visa

Our expertise include business consulting, incubation placement, legal assistance, and market entry strategies to establish and grow their startups in Portugal.

Overview

The Portugal Startup Visa is designed for business owners or prospective entrepreneurs who want to start creative initiatives in Portugal.
Applying for a visa requires a person to first submit an application to the IAPMEI, an institution that funds initiatives for entrepreneurs; following that, they must pitch a unique business idea and establish a startup in collaboration with a Portuguese business incubator.
A Startup Visa can be used to obtain a resident permit in Portugal. The first card has a two-year expiration date and can be renewed for a further three years. Family members may submit an application for residency in order to reconnect.

Application Requirements

Application Process

  1. Business Plan Submission: Entrepreneurs must present a viable and scalable business plan.
  2. Approval from a Certified Incubator: The startup must be accepted into an incubator recognized by the Portuguese government.
  3. Application Submission: Once incubator approval is secured, the entrepreneur can apply for the visa through Portugal’s Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (IAPMEI).
  4. Visa Issuance & Residence Permit: If approved, the applicant receives a residence visa, followed by a residence permit valid for two years (renewable for another three years).

The IAPMEI and an incubator assess the company idea. Should the startup concept be accepted into the programme, its founders could submit an application for Startup Visa.
